Firefox 3.5 Now The Top Browser Worldwide – Internet Explorer 6+7 Combined Still Hold Majority By a Thread

Posted on | December 21, 2009 | 1 Comment

firefox Q4 stats

According to StatsCounter, Firefox 3.5 has become the top-used browser worldwide. Now that might seem like its great news for website developers, but when you total up Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7, it is still shown that Microsoft still has a majority stake in the browser business overall (hanging by a thread. if trends continue, Internet Explorer will surely lose–and easily), but browser by browser, Firefox 3.5 is holding the trophy.

Beginning numbers

Top Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0
Firefox total (3.0, 3.5, and .2.0) = 26.15
Internet Explorer (7.0 and 6.0) = 66.73

IE 7 IE 6 FF 3 IE 8.0 FF 3.5 FF 2
2008-27 39.93 26.8 8.14 0.04 0 18.01

End numbers

Top Browser: Firefox 3.5
Firefox total (3.0, 3.5, and .2.0) = 31.95 (from 26.15)
Internet Explorer (7.0 and 6.0) = 35.89 (from 66.73)

IE 7 IE 6 FF 3 IE 8.0 FF 3.5 FF 2
2009-51 21.2 13.89 9.01 20.33 21.93 1.01
