Browser For The Better: Download Internet Explorer 8 To Feed America (Even Better, Get Rid of IE6…

At BrowserForTheBetter.com, for every download of Internet Explorer 8 from the site, they will donate 8 meals to Feeding America. On top of that, during Hunger Action month, they will DOUBLE the donation for people upgrading from Internet Explorer 6! AWESOME! BUT–does anyone use Internet Explorer anymore?!
On this specific blog, I have (33% IE/29,4% FF) :
| Msie 8.0 | 3.2 % |
| Msie 7.0 | 11.2 % |
| Msie 6.1 | 0.6 % |
| Msie 5.01 | 0 % |
| Msie 6.0 | 17.1 % |
| Msie 5.5 | 0.6 % |
| Msie 5.0 | 0.1 % |
| Msie 4.01 | 0 % |
| Msie 3.02 | 0 % |
| Msie 2.0 | 0 % |
| Msie ? | 0 % |
As you can see, version of Internet Explorer below version 7 are now “rare”… but it might be because the readers of this blog are “upgraders.” Darn! BUT WAIT!
Here’s another relatively built up site that I have that gets some traffic that I’m fairly happy with. What do the IE stats look like on that? (IE 86.7%/Firefox 5.9%)
| Msie 8.0 | 9.5 % |
| Msie 7.0 | 20.1 % |
| Msie 6.0 | 57 % |
| Msie 5.5 | 0 % |
| Msie 5.01 | 0 % |
| Msie 5.0 | 0 % |
| Msie 5.00 | 0 % |
| Msie 4.01 | 0 % |
| Msie ? | 0 % |
There we go! That’s more like it. I’m sure Microsoft is paying them to do this (duh), but it’s a great idea. There are a bunch of people out there still on Internet Explorer versions that I’d consider obsolete. Yes, Firefox is a definite competitor, but Internet Explorer still has a strong foothold on the internet. OK, I sort of wanted to do a mini public service announcement hoping anyone who is using Internet Explorer 6 will upgrade using BrowserForTheBetter.com to hopefully help out some hungry families. I probably could have done a much better job at this blog post, but I’m using a keyboard that is absolutely driving me insane. So, I do apologize
.
P.S: A Website that collects browser stats here. Internet Explorer 6.0 is at 14.4%

Thanks for the info about the donation to Feeding America. Sounds kind of neat but I’m always leery downloading from a third party site.

Hey, this is Feran with the IE Outreach Team. The Browser for the Better site is not a third party site, but rather a microsite that is fully sponsored by Microsoft – so it is completely safe to download IE8.

You’re welcome! Please let me know if there are any more questions regarding the Browser for the Better campaign, or IE8 in general.
