Create A Website Regardless of Development Skills: Visit Webnode

Webnode is a fantastic new tool that I just recently discovered and have been messing around with. It’s pretty much a  WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) online website creator that actually fascinated me. It’s really simple to use and the website templates aren’t bad at all. I figured for anyone that wants to do some minor web development for something not too fancy, you can use the tools at Webnode and create a pretty decent site in a short time. I don’t really think this would be a great tool for mini-site development, but for something you’d like to put up, it sure does it’s job. I can keep rambling on about it, but Webnode is a website that helps you create your own decent looking site in a matter of minutes. They have quite a number of features like language selection, layout options, ability to change pictures, decent personalization options.

Check out the Webnode “Quick Tour” video if you didn’t already visit the site:

Webnode Quick Tour Video

In this onlinevideo you will see how to Login to Webnode, edit online website content, use the text and images options, add a poll to your site , rearrange content in the layout, add items to a catalogue/list anywhere on your site, publish different content and use widgets such as Google Maps and the PayPal pay option in less than 3 minutes.

    Thanks for the tip.

Question: Can you build WordPress sites with it?

You can’t build WordPress themes using this site.

To create a WordPress “site” you pretty much just upload the wordpress files on your server (make sure domain is setup properly), setup the config, and then run the extremely simple install.

To find a worthy theme… that’s a problem. It can take hours to edit a theme or create your own to make it suit your needs, and requires quite a bit of php/html knowledge to make things work right.

Also, if you have cPanel, Fantastico offers an extremely easy way to install WordPress on your site.

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Just a stupid question. What is in for them? Nothing is free.

What do you think of an e-commerce site here? is that something better off professionally done?

    Thanks.

    Hey Mark,

They have a different plan where you can choose to “pay” them for extra services (such as changing the language of the template). Some people want the extra feature, but I’m sure a majority can live without it. A self-supported website would just be $$$ and adding in extra templates is probably easy for them.

As for e-commerce, I have had my share of helping friends create their own businesses online. I’d definitely think you would not be able to create a viable business using Webnode. If you’re interested in some free e-commerce scripts, check out:

    1. Magento: http://www.magentocommerce.com
    2. Presta Shop: http://www.prestashop.com

There are a couple more, but Magento is extremely professional and with it being open source, you can do a lot to it. The fact that they are free means you have a bunch of other people using them, so their forums are always packed with conversation about modifications and more. Prestashop is the easiest to use “out-of-box” and my friends learned to use it the fastest whereas I couldn’t get them to really figure out Magento.
