Snapnames Users: Check Your E-mails! Snapnames Terminating Relationships With Registrars

Posted on | April 7, 2009 | 3 Comments

Update: While writing this post, TheDomains.com posted an article regarding Snapnames and its termination with at least 18 registrars. I only had 3 mentioned (that’s all that came to my inbox thus far), so I’d recommend checking out the post here: SnapNames.com “Terminates Its Relationship” With At Least 18 Registrars

This is just a friendly reminder for those that use Snapnames to check your e-mails. Snapnames is notorious for sending backordered names to random registrars that might seem extremely shady at first. With Snapnames, however, you can get superb service if there are any problems with these so-called “shady” registrars.

The problem is now that Snapnames is terminating its relationship with “many” of these registrars. I put many in many because over the last 2-3 hours I’ve received 3 e-mails already from Snapnames letting me kow that they “will be terminating its relationship” with these registrars that I apparently have domains at. This means if I have any problems transfering domains out (which I most certainly will be doing in the next 2-3 months), then I CANNOT contact Snapnames and have them resolve issues for me.

I have had problems with some weird registrars that Snapnames made me a customer of, but they always took care of the issues while the registrars never answered my e-mails. This means this friendly reminder might be an issue of whether that backordered domain will be transferred out safely in the future or not.

So far these are the registrars I have logged that will have their relationship terminated with Snapnames according to the e-mails:

  • Names Real
  • Urban Volcano
  • Fortune Internet

Either way, still smart to get your names to a trustworthy registrar. I noticed today that I still have quite a few names that need to be pulled, so will probably get the hustle on this week.

Mason Cole here with Oversee, parent company of SnapNames.

On behalf of SnapNames, allow me to apologize for the confusion caused by the e-mail today regarding the closure of relationships with a selected few SnapNames registrar partners. Unfortunately, we understand that some of you received more than one email.

As do most businesses, SnapNames continually evaluates operations to look for additional efficiency. In a recent review, we found a number of ways to add efficiency to SnapNames processes and elected to discontinue work with these accreditations which were directly managed by SnapNames.

As a courtesy, SnapNames notified customers in advance, so names could be moved to other registrars if they chose to do so. As a valued customer, you should notice no other impact.

Questions or concerns can be directed to SnapNames support at support@snapnames.com.

Thank you for the update, Mason. It’s good to hear this is a positive thing rather than negative.
