“R.I.P. Dot Com. We barely Knew Ye!”

It’s always great to see the reaction people have once new TLDs are released. In this case, apparently .tel is the new com killer. Hrm. Possibly com killer in the way that you can get your contact info out w/ you “blahblah.tel”?

Watch the video Name.com released to promote .tel:

.tel

“Its advertised purpose is as a single management and publishing point for “internet communication” services, providing a global contacts directory service by housing all types of contact information directly in the Domain Name System(DNS).”

Either way, still fun to see different point of views. Not ridiculing, just promoting the spread of others’ information ;) . I have bought a total of 0 .tel. Didn’t even get curious and search if any were available, but I might change my mind to see if I should maybe own at least a couple? We’ll see!

I know a guy that can turn his eyelids inside out.

Just because he can; doesn’t mean he should, and it certainly doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

There’s no getting away from what .tel have done with the DNS is unique – but is that reason to make it a good idea?

I won’t be doing anything funky to my eyelids, and I won’t be buying any .tels either. I just can’t see the point.

I havent bought any .tel domains either.

I agree with Gary it is amazing what they have done with the DNS but is there really any point to them?

Is it going to replace a business card? Nope!

So what is it going to do be there as a backup incase you forget a business card nope becase you can just tell them your website to go and visit i.e. CheapFood.us or what ever your site is called?

I dont get them and Im happy to be proved wrong, just dont see the point in .tel

    Regards,

Agree with everyone. .tel just makes no sense to me and frankly I do not understand why any domainer like the idea.

Just reinforces the idea that a lot of “domainers” are not really business men. If so why would they invest in such a waste of time and resources?
