http://➡.ws – Site Promoting IDN Use With Teeny Tiny Arrow URLs
Posted on | March 3, 2009 | No Comments
There’s a new site out that’s taking advantage of IDNs in a very interesting way: offering the “tiniest URLs.” How can they do this? Use a (2) lettered ccTLD and 1 character domain “keyword” taking advantage of Internationalized Domain Names.
If you haven’t seen the title of this post, the URL of their site is: http://➡.ws
They unicode the URLs and they do pass the twitter test (where each character in unicode only counts as 1 character). Extremely cool, but the problem with this is people who click the links MUST be using and IDN compatible browser such as Internet Explorer 7 and up or Mozilla Firefox.
Here’s the tiny URL for Fka200.com: http://➡.ws/ﶜ
Sorta fun, huh? Caught this on Reddit.
