After More Than 24 Hours of Downtime, Dynadot Returns

Posted on | March 3, 2009 | 3 Comments

I went on Dynadot.com on March 1st, 2009 and ended up getting a network connection error. Having a screwy router, I thought nothing of it. After a couple hours, I realized that all the other sites are working but Dynadot isn’t. I posted on Namepros asking if everyone else  was having problems, and it turns out that the problem wasn’t my router–Dynadot has in fact been down and not resolving for everyone.

After more than 24 hours of downtime, Dynadot’s site is now finally working. What I’m waiting for is to hear/read what happened. I also want to see how they will be taking care of all the customers whom had domains to delete/renew in this “disastrous” time period. The reason for down-time (I take this as an UNOFFICIAL response) as stated in the Dynadot forums is:

Sorry about the downtime. The file system on our main server was corrupted, probably due to a hardware failure. It took us this entire time to rebuild our servers from the backups.

Hopefully something gets sent out to e-mails which does a better job. I actually purchased a handful of domains at Godaddy during the downtime!

They were down for a long time, but good they had back ups at least. Google.de was down for a bit a few days ago as well.

This is a problem with webhosts and domain hosts, when they go down there is nothing you can do until they return.

At least they gave you an explanation. I’ve been with many hosts who have not even bothered fixing the problem.

Downtimes are regular encounters for any website, no matter how efficient.
