Namedrive Domain Parking Accounts – Security Breach

Posted on | February 4, 2009 | No Comments

I posted about the odd warning I got from Namedrive while trying to login this morning, but now it all makes sense: there was a security breach at Namedrive where 1% of the accounts have been “hacked”:

Email sent to users (I didn’t get one? Guess that’s a good thing):

As part of a security update, NameDrive has changed the password for
your login to access our system.

From now on, we will require you to change your passwords every 90 days
as part of good security practices.

To gain access to your account and to retrieve your new password, please

Post Ed made on DNForum:

Hi guys,

I can confirm that the password changes are legitimate and initiated by NameDrive.

We were alerted of a possible security breach affecting less than 1% of our accounts, although we have no indication that any unauthrorised access was gained, we have reacted forcefully to ensure absolute security for your account.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us at info – at – namedrive.com

When I first blogged about it there was ZERO mention of a security breach and I thought it was just something Namedrive was doing just in case, but yep–security breach. Swift action taken on Namedrive’s side, so my hat is tipped to them. I’ll probably be making sure my passwords are changed anyways… just to be on the safe side.
