Windows 7 Beta Download – Released For The Public

For the risk takers out there, Microsoft has released the beta ISO of its new operating system–Windows 7. Users can now download Windows 7 Beta directly from Microsoft, so I highly don’t recommend using any of the other shady websites that are hosting it on their servers. Also, no need to use torrents to get Windows 7–just get it direct from Microsoft! It’s faster and you know it should be clean (hopefully!). Windows 7 doesn’t demands the amount of resources I expected to run “effiicitenly”, but what triggered me to actually do some research on it is some people are claiming that Windows 7 is much better than Vista… so I figured I might need to try it out for myself and see what’s up with it.
Minimum recommended specs call for:
- 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
- 1 GB of system memory
- 16 GB of available disk space
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)
- DVD-R/W Drive
- Internet access (to download the Beta and get updates)
For those that don’t know what an ISO is, it’s pretty much an image of something, and when burned onto a disc, is a “copy” of it. To use this, some people might extract the Windows 7 files and try to run it that way, but Microsoft recommends you burn the ISO. If you guys don’t have an ISO burner, here’s one that runs directly from within Windows XP: Link
I haven’t tried this yet, so WARNING: USE ARE YOUR OWN RISK! I might mess with this (see if I can just do an “upgrade” from Vista to Windows 7 Beta rather than a fresh install), so it might be a fun thing while having nothing to do. For those of you that have used it, how is Windows 7 Beta? I’m somewhat weary to use this considering the bad experiences I had when Windows XP was in beta, but eh… after a long morning, this might be fun.
Edit: Just decided I’m going to go ahead and try to install this.
