Domain Branding – FreeCreditReport.com
Posted on | January 9, 2009 | 5 Comments
Well, I made that long post regarding companies that get it and what exactly “it” is to me. I used some examples of some companies and the domains they chose (eek), but a WONDERFUL example of a domain branding at its absolute best is FreeCreditReport.com. I swear, these guys hit the gold mine with their commercials. Last weekend I was at a friends house and we were all sitting around the couch channel surfing and the person controlling the remote was flipping through shows and passed this commercial. Milliseconds later I had a friend shout “PUT IT BACK! PUT IT BACK!”. What was it?! The darned FreeCreditReport.com commercial w/ the pirates. When you can get a 19 year old to sit and shout and make the designated remote-channel-flipper go back to a commercial, you’ve done well.

How about freetaxfiling.com? That one is collecting dust in my junk domain drawer. Think I should dust it off and start a new business?

Free Tax Filing actually isn’t bad at all. I would definitely consider doing something with it! Heck, I would even consider buying it for a decent price!

The Free Credit Report folks are rather smart when it comes to thier commercials. They not only can grab the younger target market, but also include representatives from several generations throughout most commercials…thus making thier product more appealing to the masses and not branded as age specific. Add a “catchy” tune to help operantly condition viewers over an unending exposure rates and gold is only the begining. Well done communications program.
