Time Warner Cable: Bye Bye Nickelodeon, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central And More!

Viacom want’s MORE MONEY. They are “seeking an increase in affiliate fees of less than 25 cents a month for each subscriber for all 19 of its MTV Networks cable channels”.
EDIT: You can now watch the Viacom “promotional” advertisement here trying to get everyone to call Time Warner and push to pay up for the channels. CLICK HERE.<< RSS Sign Up>>
Advertising is hitting TV pretty big, so this is really interesting news. Time Warner Cable and Bright Networks Cable customers… this might be your LAST DAY of watching TV stations on your cable subscription like MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and tv programs like Date My Mom, Exposed, Dora The Explorer, Drake and Josh, etc!If they don’t reach an agreement by December 31, 2008 (TODAY!!) then on NEW YEARS DAY Viacom will cancel these channels and we WON’T be able to watch them anymore. I repeat: TV Stations like MTV will be canceled and never shown for Time Warner Cable customers! Try to spread the word–I’m not sure if this willl help!
The number I got down for Time Warner Cable customers who are affected by this is 1-800-762-3786. You must be 18 years old or older to call, according to the notice that popped on my TV. This is ridiculous–I refuse to provide DirecTV with any service, so Dish Network it might be if this falls apart. WOW–What a way to start the new year! Taking some of the most popular channels out there. Well, Viacom did let go of 850 employees earlier this month, so money is obviously an issue. Darn our economy
.
Here’s a full list of all the TV stations that will be canceled for Time Warner Cable and Bright Networks Cable customers on January 1, 2009 if agreements aren’t made by the end of today:
Comedy Central; CMT: Pure Country; Logo; Palladia; MTV; MTV 2; MTV Hits; MTV Jams; MTV Tr3s; Nickelodeon; Noggin; Nick 2; Nicktoons; Spike; The N; TV Land; Vh1; Vh1 Classic; and Vh1 Soul
That’s a pretty big (and important–at least to me) lineup of TV channels that will be canceled. I’m hoping SOMETHING is done. Time Warner Cable has released a statement saying that they are just asking for way too much… but these channels are pretty much what make or break a cable company. C’mon… Comedy Central?! MTV? Nickelodeon?! No more iCarly? Well, let’s see what happens.

So these channels will be part of a special package that you have to pay more for? I can’t imagine TW not having these channels available at all.
MTV wouldn’t be a great loss anyhow… They don’t even play music videos anymore. Just a bunch of reality shows with people that don’t earn a living for themselves, but spend all the money in the world. Not even reality I guess, when you think about it.

Nope… they just won’t be on there… I’m assuming. If they do add it as a package, then it’ll definitely be an extra charge. I had a long conversation with the rep at Time Warner and they are definitely exploring their options, but she told me that they CANNOT reach ANY agreement with Viacom. This conversation was held at 10AM pacific, so I’m not sure what they have been going through since then.
MTV has some “somewhat” entertaining shows every now and then. I agree about the whole music video thing, and them doing sponsored videos with Rhapsody is extremely annoying, but still! NO MTV on Normal Cable?! C’mon! And the reality shows… LOL… reality with retakes!
Really want to see what happens tomorrow! This is creating huge buzz right now.

I can’t believe this. I’m devastated. I’m only 11 and they’re taking away my 2 favorite channels. iCarly is the best show ever! Cable needs to give Viacom that money or else so many people are going to drop their service!

Nickelodeon has been around ever since I can remember! I am 30 and it was here when I know for a fact at age 4. We already have no Saturday morning cartoons for our kids to watch anymore! Remember when we were kids we couldnt wait till Saturday morning……NOTHING BUT CARTOONS AND SHOWS FOR KIDS! I have 5 children and they have no idea what I am talking about when I say Saturday morning cartoons. All they watch is Nickelodeon because it is the only kid station really left! Plus at night I enjoy the shows they have on for adults! I tried to call the 1800 number listed above and its not even a working number! The little people are always the ones who get the short end of it! My kids are devistated! But the big wigs that us little people have helped make rich just dont care!

I posted an advertisement (the post has been updated) where they also list a number. I too tried calling the 1800 number but it wasn’t working. Weird!
I hope they take care of this… I heard that it would be about $2.50 extra / year for subscribers to make sure they get to keep the channels… I would definitely pay the extra 2.50$, but it’s just corporate America getting more greedy! C’mon, we’re in a recession! Leave us alone and don’t take our TV away!

Is this specific to Time Warner Cable?
If Viacom is planning on asking for more money, you would assume they are asking from all the cable companies, which implies other cable companies should also be affected.

I don’t understand why Time Warner can’t just agree on it. Its not like they arn’t charging you for every little thing anyway whats another pasted on fee. I went into the office the other day to pay my bill and it was 2.00 to pay your bill in person, 5.00 to pay over the phone if someone live comes on the phone because their system is down and not working right. Now the new 1.00 fee for mailing you a bill if you don’t want one emailed to you so why don’t they just settle on a fee and just add it to our bills just like they do for every other nickle and dime they are rapping us for.
