Google Does It – Released Google “AdSense For Domains” (Google Domain Parking Program)
Posted on | December 12, 2008 | 3 Comments
Google finally did it and released a domain parking program which incorporates its AdSense for content advertisements and feeds it to a page where people who land on the page can click an make you money.
Wow. After dealing with arbitrage and numerous reports about Google cutting its feed to some domain parking companies, this is HUGE move.
Numerous domaining blogs have blogged about the Google domain parking program, but Domain Name Wire actually ended up posting pictures and such which really gave me a great visual of what exactly was happening. On the AdSense blog, they mentioned that North American AdSense accounts were getting this option first, but for some reason it isn’t in my account yet, so I can’t do a good-a-job as Andrew from Domain Name Wire has already done. So, sadly, I will need to forward you guys to his article in order for my readers to get actual pictures so you can see what the Google domain parking landing pages look like and other exciting information regarding the new and huge move by Google.
This used to be an extremely exclusive program offered by Google to domain owners who have traffic in excess of 750,000 unique hits/month. Opening this up to the “public” is pretty big. My opinion regarding this is: an excellent way to get MORE information regarding domain names and the internet AND managing to increase revenue. The only problem? What happens to the other current parking providers? Well, the differences in feeds (Yahoo/Google) might make some sort of difference… and all domains aren’t alike. One might work very well at one provider and the same will work extremely bad at another. If I get this, I might test some names just out of curiosity, but I really want to see what current providers are going to be doing. Obviously the Google template is extremely “blah” and plain, but a huge base of advertisers and “cutting out the middle-man” might make it worth it. We’ll see!

Anytime!
It’s actually something I believe has long been overdue, but at the same time… pretty scary. If Google somehow manages to monopolize domain parking (I highly doubt it with their hideous landing templates), then OTHER domain parking companies might run into some problems. BUT… if I start getting 50cent clicks on a domain that has only been getting 10cent clicks at another parking company… Google will get my domains. The only thing, like I mentioned, this is probably going to mean a LOT more information regarding domains and the way traffic works on the net is going to readily be available at Google’s fingertips.
The power they are getting is just seriously unbelievable… but you have to admit, they pretty much are doing what’s expected of them, and a decent job at it, too.
I’m assuming in the future there will be more customization options for this feature, but this is probably a bit of testing the water for the time being. They have reportedly been against “parking” for a while and even had a suit brought against them for a landing page with Google advertisements. We’re just going to have to wait and see what happens. I’m currently in the process of just moving around a bunch of names and figuring out what works where with the most returns, so this is definitely a POSSIBLE option for me at this point.
Oh well. There can just be so much said about this subject… it’s a REALLY big and bold move by the big ‘ol G.
