China Taking Over – .CN TLD Statistics

Posted on | December 8, 2008 | No Comments

I already posted some TLD statistics last month, but there was a recent article regarding the growth of China on the internet in regards to the country-code tld .CN. I found it interesting that it was posted just a couple days ago, and thought that it might be worth sharing, considering I received some e-mails from people regarding the “full Chinese URL” that I just posted about.

“Although 76 percent growth is impressive, the stats suggest that growth has slowed a bit in this realm for China. Last year, for example, VeriSign reported that registrations for the .cn TLD were up by 467 percent over the same time in 2006. It was enough to put China in second place by surpassing .uk, which had held the number two position after .com for several years.”

I made a comment that an obvious reason for a huge push in the number of registrations was probably because they began offering ASCII registration for literally pennis, but with over a billion people and a massive growing economy, I strongly believe there is a definite opportunity for the Chinese community to being making some seriousl cash with Chinese-related domains. The only thing is: Do you go ASCII or IDN? Late night post, but something to definitely think about! I’m still damn impressed with that full Chinese URL we saw yesterday. Having some readers that are located in China, I thought it might be interesting to also see if I can manage to get some comments regarding the growth they are experiencing online. If you’d like to comment, go for it!
