Google Never Does Things Half-Assed – Google Chrome, Coming To A New Computer Near You

Posted on | November 22, 2008 | 5 Comments

An interesting article regarding Google Chrome was posted yesterday on Yahoo! UK&Ireland–”Google may pre-install Chrome browser”.

I used Chrome for probably 5 minutes just to see how it worked, and uninstalled it. The part that freaked me out the most was how Google now had access to what sites I was visiting and what not. That was a part of my privacy I just didn’t want invaded (and no, it has nothing to do with the types of sites I visit… ;) ). What this article does to me is start of emergency lights all over for me. If Google Chrome becomes a dominant browser, search will start being heavily included within the address bar. This means less direct navigation (MY OPINION). What does less direct navigation mean to me? It means: LESS MONEY. I’m a domainer… I park domains. A big part of making money with parked domains is getting people to get to your site… with minimal effort. Minimal effort in domaining terms means direct navigation. Crap. If only the title to this post was the opposite.

Not really much to worry about, I think. I’m acting as if Google Chrome is part of a company that is viewed everyday by millions of unique visitors and they have the power to reach out and advertise Google Chrome to all these unique visitors. Oh wait… they do. The fact that Chrome might come bundled with new computers also ticks me off a little.

Maybe it’s just a little paranoia added onto the fact that a lot of stuff online isn’t going as well as I expected it would this time a year. It’s either that or writing a post at 6:30AM with no sleep is a big no-no.

I did not like my first experience with Chrome, but I am hoping a lot of the things I did not like will disappear as they further develop the app.

Direct navigation is already fading according to study(http://searchengineland.com/direct-navigation-and-domain-empires-11287.php) so why fear about Chrome’s behavior? Domain development is slowly becoming a trend if you want to survive as it has the chance to rank in Google and other search engines.

    Just a thought!
    Cheers :)

True about development and survival. I actually went through a lot of time + money developing some domains back in April/May… and for some odd reasons, those domains actually went BANNED in Google. Till this day I have NO clue why. All I know is I spent a lot of money to acquire the domain names AND to get them developed (with unique content), so development to me is sort of a curse. I actually spent 2 weeks developing one site (that was previously indexed in Google with the parked page site) and after I finished, DISAPPEARED from the index 3 days later. I was seriously going nuts… but I spend 1-2 hours/week checking my domain rankings, and the site is actually back with an increase in traffic.

Direct navigation is really what gets me my money, so hearing that it’s fading away is sort of bitter sweet. I was actually watching a cousin browse the net last night after Thanksgiving dinner and it seems a LOT of people (especially my dad) go to Google and type in the URL and search for it…

    Oh well ;)

    Appreciate the comment!
