DomainFight.net - UDRP Search Engine

Well, a new domaining service just made it to the Fka200.com blogroll. DomainFight.net is a “UDRP Search Engine”. What exactly is UDRP?

UDRP is an acronym for “Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy“. This is a type of policy that ICANN has set that all registrars must follow. “Under the policy, most types of trademark-based domain-name disputes must be resolved by agreement, court action, or arbitration before a registrar will cancel, suspend, or transfer a domain name. Disputes alleged to arise from abusive registrations of domain names (for example, cybersquatting) may be addressed by expedited administrative proceedings that the holder of trademark rights initiates by filing a complaint with an approved dispute-resolution service provider.”

What does this service do for people? Well, you can use the user-friendly “UDRP Search” website to sit and do some research about old UDRP cases. These cases arise when trademark holders/people who think they own the rights to a domain go through the legal process of trying to gain a domain name. The whole LH.com fiasco is an example of a domain that was taken away through this legal process. And yep… when you go to DomainFight.net and search for “LH.com” with “Domain Name” selected as the search filter, you will end up with the UDRP case information of that exact case that I blogged about in the past:

1153492 lh.com Deutsche Lufthansa AG v Future Media Architects, Inc. Transferred
17-Apr-2008

Absolutely wonderful research website and simple to use. I’m going to be messing around with Domain Fight when I have lots of free time tomorrow :) .

This is a pretty cool tool and it can be fun too. Thanks for highlighting it. It is also good to learn from other domainers errors. When in doubt it is best to just avoid the domain altogether.
