There was a major SERP update a month or so ago. When it happened, a LOT of people starting posting on the forums. What exactly happened? Who knows. Have been waiting to post about this on my blog ever since I noticed what was going. Finally back and doing some investigating as to what caused this major change?

Some of my domains jumped up to where they used to be when they have good ranking a while ago. Other domains–eh… not so good. Have been up late for the last week and a half trying to figure out what happened. Lots on the forums have been talking about Google talking their keyword rankings away… but some are saying their site shot up. I thought I had it figured out, but it just didn’t make sense.

Here are some threads on DP about recent Google SERP changes:

many keywords disappeared from google serp

I have lost 3/4 of my Google Traffic! HELP!!!

Has Google changed something over the last week or so?

Major change on Google SERP algorithm

Google July 2008 PR Update - Does a PR drop effect rankings?

No traffic from google

Alright… there are more threads, but I’m not going to sit and post every link! Decided I should post this up on my blog because a lot of people have been discussing the “Google June 2008 search algorithm update” and the “Google June 4th 2008 search update”. I also have been searching around for a lot of resources, but no one knows exactly why sites were devalued and just dropped for their keywords. Some sites literally just went to getting everyday keyword searches to “domain search traffic” (traffic by people just searching for the domain in Google) and that’s it. Absolutely frustrating, but hopefully something will be figured out.

I also DON’T believe these sites were penalized. There is some sort of SEO reason they were devalued, but WHY? I’ll try to post any updates if I find any.

– FRUSTRATED –

Oh yeah… there was also a Yahoo! search update. Will probably post about that soon, but Google is the search engine god, so it gets its post first.

Google seems to always keep us guessing, it boggles the brain at times and it good at keeping us all “in the dark”!

To be honest I haven’t noticed any major changes in Google. I have had some sites basically disappear because of a penalty (I think) but nothing like other people are describing.
