In Domaining (Or Anything Else): If You Snooze, You Lose!

Posted on | May 7, 2008 | 6 Comments

Came across a thread in the “Domain Newbies” section at Namepros that might help someone somewhere in the world.

Summary of the story: Person finds good domain available but decides to sleep on it. Comes back next day only to find it has been registered by someone else. Pissed. Person who registers posts in the thread saying he (or she) was the one who reg’d it.

Moral of the story: If you find a domain you want/like, register it! Don’t put it off till later. Been screwed by this a couple times myself. Oh well!

Ipdster:

Yesterday I was playing around with excel, looking for names on godaddy and values on estibot. I found a pretty nice unregistered name: kik.mobi
Stupid me was too tired to bother registering it, and I put it off until this morning. As you can guess, someone registered it overnight.

Now, it is registered under godaddy. Yesterday when I had searched under estibot, it said “owner has it up for sale” or something like that, even though it was still free.

So who do you guys think is the culprit?

newton:

I found it available yesterday so I regged it There was certainly no whois sniffing involved.

Sucks. I hate .mobi, but probably would’ve reg’d it to just flip it. Decent LLL pronounceable! You snooze, you lose!

    If You Snooze, You Lose.

I have a saying which goes this way.

First comes to the cake eats the whole cake and anyone else after eats the crumbs (when it comes to domain names there is “nothing”left – No crumbs at all).

    Great post

Thanks, Damir. Just goes to show that people should act quick in this industry. With all the competition around… it’s hard to just leave something sitting there.

    Yum… cake :D

Oh yeah – I don’t tend to find many stellar domains, but any I do think are so I register ASAP. :)

It is that way with anything in life worth doing! If you put if off someone else will do it and you will be stuck on the outside looking in.
