I Guess People Don’t Care?

Posted on | April 19, 2008 | 2 Comments

I had this whole post written out a couple hours ago out of frustration about the discrepancy in an auction thread on Digital Point and the who-is information. I decided I would give the benefit of the doubt to the seller and just not open my mouth since I didn’t do more than 5 minutes research. In this 5 minutes, I decided it would be wise to stay away from the auction.

Why am I bringing up an issue I decided not to even bother with? It’s because instead of having this whole long frustrating post on how people just don’t do any research before buying a domain and end up getting royally screwed out of their money, I decided to ask the seller the question in the auction post.

Auction Thread Initial Post:

K5P.comPremium LCL.com For Sale

Registered at Fabulous.com (free push)
Expires April 2009

Auction Details

Auction starts at $1
Bid increments $2
Auction ends 48 hours after last bid

Quick BIN: $299

My Question To The Seller: “Are you sure the information is correct? Registrar/Expiration date don’t match the post.”

You’d assume after a post like that in the auction thread eye-brows would be raised. NOPE! 7 offers came after that post for the domain.

I mentioned in my “previous (posted for 5 seconds) post” that I’m not pointing any fingers, but c’mon. What’s up with people? Do they just not care? Is money so readily available on trees that they are willing to take the chance ($180+) and go ahead with the hassle of chargebacks and waiting forever to (possibly) get their money back? I don’t know… but I’m just going to stay out of things. I was even going to warn some potential buyers on the thread, but screw it. As the title says (and mentioning again): “I guess people don’t care.”

As always: Invest Wisely.

I hope to be wrong about all of this. I’m not making accusations about anyone, just posting relevant information that people should always take into consideration when making financial decisions; especially information that takes no more than 10 seconds to look up. I’m really hoping that the final transaction I’m talking about ends up legit, and I end up looking like an idiot for making this post.

I think, it’s not just people don’t care but most of us including myself simply assume that the seller is legit and the offer is genuine. But with more cases like that I think we all should pay more attention to information that provided.

Always better to be safe than sorry. Seller has corrected expiration date… I do hope I end up looking like a dunce after this post. Was looking at a bunch of previous posts by the seller and he looks legit (but didn’t spend too much time), but I still kept away due to the differences in who-is information + what was being said on the thread.

    Goodluck!
