Network Solutions Hijacking Unassigned SUBDOMAINS

Posted on | April 9, 2008 | No Comments

Checking out Domain Bits today, there was a damn interesting post that absolutely shocked me. It was mentioned at Tech Crunch, but I don’t visit their site as often as Domain Bits ;) .

Network Solutions is now hijacking unassigned sub-domains. This means that a URL like mysub.fka200.com (mysub being the subdomain) would actually lead to a parked page where Network Solutions can make some money off of the advertisements.

C’MON! How crappy can one company get?!

I used to think Network Solutions was a respected company; Now I just think they are scum of the earth. I’d imagine a hosting company getting away with something like this (those are super easy to change)… but a registrar?

Edit:

Was just reading the Tech Crunch article and saw this:

I don’t know if this is standard practice for a hosting company, but this strikes me as another case of Network Solutions unreasonably profiting at the expense of its customers.

Extremely interesting and frustrating… even though I have no domains with them.
