Get Your Credit Cards Ready… ICANN Price Increases Coming Soon!

Crap. Early warning on ICANN’s fee raises for October ’08.

“VeriSign to raise registry fees for .com and .net domain names”

The Mountain View, Calif.-based company said the registry fee for .com domain names will increase to $6.86 from $6.42 while the registry fee for .net domain names will rise to $4.23 from $3.85.

Not really a surprise. This was shown in their contract last year if I remember correctly. I still remember the increase of October 2007. Got my shiny new credit card (which is maxed out, at the moment) and renewed my domains till 2009. Looks like I might have to be doing the same this year also just to save some money? Eh. Not sure.

7% Price Increases:

2008 $6.42 -> $6.82
2009 $6.82 -> $7.30
2010 $7.30 -> $7.81
2011 $7.81 -> $8.36

For someone who only owns 5-10 domains, this probably won’t really matter to them. For large portfolio holders… HRMMM. How long are people going to hold their LLLL.com/.net? ;)

    No doubt whose that make a living from the net the best bet is just to get a reseller account with like godaddy and be able to buy a discount pricing in the long term the savings outweigh the yearly cost.

    I’ve been registering most of my domains 1 year at a time, but next year I’m seriously considering buying in a few years ahead to save some money. Vic has some pretty good advice though.
