AOL (America Online) to Acquire Bebo – Fund.com $10M Sale

First off with the newest news:

Logged into my e-mail and checked out some of the latest news and what do I see? AOL decided to have some fun and join in on the social networking scene with the big boys. They want to buy socia networking site Bebo.com. Being in the United States, we only have two dominant social networking sites around here: MySpace and Facebook. Outside of those two websites, NADA. I am familiar with popular international networking sites, however. And of those I know that Hi5.com and Bebo.com are up there on the international scene. I think this is a great idea, but I hope that AOL isn’t going try to and cram Bebo down the Americans throats. They should focus on expanding in the international market and hopefully get a tight enough grip where they can accept a possible failure in America.

AOL said Thursday it will pay $850 million to acquire the online hangout Bebo, giving the struggling Internet company a foothold in an expanding business.

Bebo is one of the largest social networks in Britain, is ranked No. 1 in Ireland and New Zealand and has a global membership of more than 40 million, according to AOL. In the United States, however, it ranks third behind MySpace and Facebook.

Some oldie (2-3 day old) domain news that was absolutely posted on almost every blog I visit is the recent sale of Fund.com for $10,000,000 ($10 Million). Was going to post about but I figured I’d wait till it died down and talk about it a little since there’s always a few people that miss out on the information.

So basically Fund.com was sold for $10,000,000 cash. It is expected to be the highest sale price for a domain name ever (all cash).

Here’s a list of other domains sold for crazy amounts:

LOL that has to be “Quote of the year” on my blog… “AOL has spending money” :) !

I’m sure they have some cash. They’ve lost a lot of grip and influence on the net (at least in America) so this is kind of a great thing if they can manage to use Bebo for their advantage. I’m thinking that they are going to start pursuing international markets.
