“We’re In A Recession.” – Still Pissed About CPC?

There have been some recent slumps in cost per click (CPC). Without getting into too much detail about what exactly can attribute to these slumps, we need to remember to take a look at the economic giant fueling a majority of the advertisements online: The United States.
There was an interesting video I found at think progress and this stood out to me:
Buffett: “We’re in a recession.”
People can’t seem to grasp (on forums) that economic conditions aren’t good. We see people talking about making $100/day to $40/day etc. etc. HUGE decrease, YES… but what do you expect? I can get into the mumbo jumbo (which I have numerously done) with the relation to advertising and our economies (hell, I even suggested using euros in our domain sales!), but I’m not. I was actually a little presentation where there was a discussion about our economic situation and someone was saying that the first to get the cut was advertising–depending on the company of course. Some will in fact spend more to try and increase sales just so their books look normal, but most will cut their budgets.
Warren Buffett:
“from a common sense standpoint right now, we’re in a recession.” Conceding that “we haven’t had two consecutive quarters” of a decline in GDP — which is the technical definition of a recession — Buffett argued that, “on balance, most people’s situations, certainly their net worth, has been heading south.”
There have been situations recently with domain parking and advertisers, so it’s only normal for things to start going a bit downhill. I’d imagine there are people making more money now and yada yada, but ceteris paribus (all things equal) things are sucking.
This is more of a rant post since I’ve been getting a couple e-mails here and there (about 15) from people asking me if I had a list of new mortgage keywords. I was laughing considering there is a huge housing slump here in the United States. If you do some research, you’d get a laugh at the situation also. Keep you need to adapt to the times… I struggled a bit for 2 weeks but I’m now alright. I took some time off and sat and tweaked sites, realized I’d need more traffic to make up for lower CPC, etc. I’d suggest doing the same if you’re running into some problems.
This blog post probably isn’t getting anywhere productive. All it is saying is that credible people like Warren Buffet are publicly saying that there are problems with the American economy. A majority of publishers target American traffic for their CPC and they are just sitting bitching and moaning about not getting $10/click with their MFAs… quit whining. Read the news. UNDERSTAND there is a problem right now.
Damn. Had I not written this much I probably wouldn’t have posted this, but oh well.
