Ask.com And Google Advertising Fiasco Real – Bodis’ Response

Posted on | February 25, 2008 | 1 Comment

This was just posted moments ago on Namepros by cfguru360 (Matt, CEO of Bodis.com). I also made some *TASTY* points in bold:

Okay, so here comes the big matzah ball.

There have been lately many changes within the domain industry, one of the bigger ones is Google’s non-renewal of Ask’s Domain Parking Channel syndication contract. What this means, is that on February 28th, our upstream ad provider (Ask.com), will no longer be syndicating Google ads to us. What this means is that we will lose some support for some of the international countries.

We have a deal with many upstream providers, along with Ask.com still being one of them. We will continue to still be able to monetize your domain names after the 28th, and the transition should be very smooth.

Many will probably wonder what revenue will be like without Google listings. It is hard for us to predict the revenue that you will make after the 28th as we haven’t tested out our new deals widely enough. Although, I will assume that the revenue for North America traffic domains will not be too much worse. We will also be supporting many international countries, although not as many as we have currently. We’ll have a full list of all supported countries emailed out to all our members and and posted here tomorrow morning.

We expect revenue to rise for some countries such as UK and India with our new feeds – although we are not 100% sure so I am not promising anything here.

The first few days the revenue can be a little lower, while our new ad providers take a look at our traffic. Once they see the quality of our traffic, they will put us in better traffic buckets with better and higher paying advertisers.

We’d like everyone to stay with us after the 28th and see how our new feeds will do for them. It may do a lot better for some. We may do better for specific niches.

There are also many advantages for us in the future with these new deals. All of our upstream providers now are very flexible. Starting the 28th we will allow adult domain names. We will also allow arbitrage and have 1-click landers a few weeks down the road.

So once again, at first it may be a little rough, but I am sure it will actually be an advantage for us in the near future. These ad providers also all pass CPC pricings to us based on click, so we can now finally do a lot better in terms of optimization, etc – unlike our current deal with Google which gave just revenue for the entire network, and we had to split it manually.

We will have more details on our new ad providers tomorrow morning for everyone. We’d like you all to continue parking with us and to at least experience our new revenues. Like I have said, it may do better for some, and worse for others. Different domains may now do good that haven’t done well before.

Also, many domains that have been banned from displaying Google sponsored listings with us in the past will now be unbanned – so the revenue on those should do a lot better.

I’d like to remind everyone that the Google non-renewal of contract affects only the Ask Domain Parking Channel. We have not been able to confirm these rumors before because we had to strictly keep it confidential.

So, like I stated before there will be some interesting changes. Bodis.com allowing adult domains? Woo Hoo! I love it. I also mentioned that Parking Panel says there will be some new touches coming up–so this is in fact the real deal if you just digest all the information in the correct way. Lets see what happens. 1-click landers + arbitrage with Bodis? Hrm. Extremely (Extremely) interesting.

Since situations like this directly affect me and I have mentioned a decrease in revenue I WILL be reporting about this. Hell, in class right now and I’m posting this up. Important news in the domaining industry such as this must be addressed! LOL. Alright. We’ll see the outcome of these changes… and hopefully they will be positive ::crosses fingers::. If anything else comes up, I’ll be sure to post up information.
