eBay Removes Negative Feedback – May 2008
Ebay RIP

“In a move to curtail retaliation by vengeful sellers in its feedback system, eBay plans to prohibit sellers from posting negative feedback about their customers.

Beginning in May, sellers will not be able to leave negative or even neutral comments about their customers, only positive feedback, said spokesman Usher Lieberman.

But Lieberman says some sellers have been abusing the system, retaliating against customers who leave them negative feedback. And that has left many buyers afraid to leave honest comments, or even use the site, period, he says.”

EDIT: I goofed. Thought that they removed negative feedback all together. Re-writing this post, LOL!

OK, so buyers can still leave negative rep for sellers. That’s good. Sellers can’t leave negative to buyers…. hrmmmm… non-payment increase? Shilling increase?

I’m not really sure about this. A negative rating system is actually necessary for the most part… but they really do make a valid point. If you get a negative seller trading, you’d just smite the other person by giving them negative back, huh? I’ve seen it happen before in the past, and hell… I know some people that used to PURPOSELY give buyers negative feedback if they left them negative.

Eh. Not as bad as it seemed to be before when I thought they just removed the whole damn negative rating system. Good move? Nah. I still think buyers should be getting negative under certain circumstances like not paying quick enough or shill bidding, but since a majority of the sale is placed onto the seller, it does make sense IN A SORT… Let’s say you start getting red repped but can’t red rep back.

For example, you sell a PSP box. Buyer thinks that they ordered a PSP. Buyer red reps since they couldn’t read the description properly and seller can’t red rep back “BUYER CAN’T READ!”

Alright. That’s enough on eBay for the morning.

I am not too happy about them changing the feedback system. I like it how it is. Ebay should remove the feedback if the buyer, or seller sends a complaint to them and provides a good reason as to why the feedback should be removed. In this way, both the buyer and seller will be protected.

If the feedback system was changed, as to how it is proposed to become, then the seller would be unprotected and can do nothing.
