Goodbye January, Hello February. Oh Glorious, Shining February

Awkward title, huh? January is over in about 3 hours (at least for me–other parts in the world are already experiencing the first day of February 2008′s 29 days! Leap Year!). I needed to make a blog post about this month just because it was so darn exciting for me–and the domaining industry. Lots and lots of domaining news… as well as a very successful domaining month in terms of revenue. I never anticipated 2008 starting off with a bang–a HUGE bang. [Inserting Random Comment Here: This is officially my 100th blog post on Fka200.com!]

January 7, 2008 – LLLL.com Investment… Green Light From Me!
Comments: The prices of LLLL.com have spiraled out of control. I’ve been seeing them lately for $50-60 MINIMUM. I was letting them go for $30 back in late December/Early January. At the end of January, the prices just keep going up!

Comments: This caused a lot of people to get pissed off on the forums. AdSense wanted to disable referrals for people outside of certain countries. They did later change their policy to disable payments for referral sign ups of people not in a certain demographic area.

January 31, 2008 – R.I.P Domain Tasting! ICANN Votes 13-0 Against Tasting!
Comments: Didn’t know that ICANN would go all the way and abolish domain tasting. Predictions were an increase in fee, but nope! Kill tasting all together! Down go the tongues…
Who knows what February has to hold? Traffic is going strong for my domains right now and I’m just so damn excited. I’ve been monitoring logs of revenue and comparing the different halves in a month (first 15 days vs last 15 days) and the last 15 days of January have experienced a 20% increase in revenue than the first 15 days. Now… there’s a lot that went into raising that revenue–especially 20%– and I’ve hinted about things in the blog this month. Most important thing? Google’s SERP shuffle calming down. I did lose my rank on one money maker site 2 weeks ago, but it regained a decent (front page) rank yesterday. Still, other sites kept things up. I’ve been reading around the SEO blogs the last 3-4 months and was tweaking some of my sites. Hopefully I get more experienced at Search Engine Optimization… I don’t like to go overboard and it does take time and patience, but hell… it’s worth it.
Things look bright. January was fun, now let’s continue the ride. Bring it on, February!
