AdSense MythBuster – Old Code vs. New Code
Posted on | January 11, 2008 | No Comments
To make a somewhat useful post for the night, I’m going to talk about our recent “AdSense Myth Buster” on Digital Point. Member godmode had this theory that maybe–for those who haven’t upgraded–the old AdSense code was the problem for recent low eCPM. This means that if you have the old code up on your site, your earnings are crappy and to get higher earnings, use the new code.
Godmode:
As some of you may have seen that since mid-december, eCPM has gone down by about 30-50% for some people.
We all know the good old stories about advertisers out for vacation, low budgets, no season etc. Lets leave the textbook theories aside for the time being.
During this time, as most of your are aware adsense made changes to adsense code and now it gives a code with adslot.
Now am wondering this who are still using the old code are suffering from low eCPM for not changing the code?
I guess that shouldn’t be the case but if you are getting lower eCPM lately please post if you are still using the old adsense code.
So we can come to a conclusion.
This is really not my theory but just wanted to verify with others.
It was an interesting observation and it seemed like people accepted this theory saying that earnings have gone down since the new code. The new code change came around the holiday season–of course there was going to be some change. I figured I would try to “bust” this myth. I had a website where the old AdSense code has been placed on it since early 2007. I replaced the old code with a new code last night–along with a mini face lift–and waited. It’s been about 24 hours and my eCPM is still the same. If by chance in the next 2-3 days something miraculous happens with earnings for that site, I’ll report back. In the mean time, this myth seems to have been busted. There is no difference between earnings with the old vs. new AdSense code.
