Preparing For The New Years… For Domainers

Domainers Resolutions…

I woke up this morning and checked that Domainsite, 10dollar.ca, Dynadot, AND Moniker ALL sent me e-mails telling me some of my domains were expiring soon. Before the price increase in (I think) October, I renewed a LOT of my domains. I left some that I might let expire, but I’m definitely going to look over things today to see what needs to be kept.

Having seen this, I thought about what needs to be changed about my “online business.” I see things as being crucial for making the most amount of money, and I haven’t been doing them since there really is a huge lack of organization. What am I planning on doing in 2008? Here’s a look at my mini-list of changes I hope to accomplish:

1. Acquire.

I’m going to try to get my hands on more domains I want. I’ve been buying in the last couple of months (might I add I am in debt due to domains?) and am going to stop. I was approached by some interested in purchasing some of my domains, so I’m going to see if I can finalize any deals which will boost earnings in early ’08 and give me some more spending power when trying to purchase.

2. Organize.

I’m going to run errands today, but when I get back I’m going to see what I want to use to help me get more organized. I think I’m going to go with a simple excel sheet, but I want to “shop around” and see if there is something a bit more advanced. I want to get more organized with my earnings/money I spent because of damn taxes. 2007′s tax add-up is going to be HELL for me due to lack of organization, but Google + other providers do make it a little easy to go back and get logs of what was earned.

3. Develop

Domainers ALWAYS put this on their “to do lists.” I do as well. I’ve already fallen behind in some of my ideas, but I’m not that worried. It’s one thing to have a domain that’s not making anything–these need to be developed–and one thats at least making something. If a domain does get traffic and it’s a targeted domain, you bet it’s going to get developed. I think of new ways to get sites up everyday. I feel like in 2009 I’m just going to see if I can make deals with people to develop them with me and allow them to be “partners.” Not sure yet, since there are some pretty big names and I wouldn’t know if I want to have a site maintained or just pay for it and sit back and see what happens. These are the decisions that are going to have to eventually be made.

4. Improve Communication Skill

I’ve been approached by a couple people wanting some of my domains… badly. I’m not that bad at communication, but I haven’t done enough research about value so I lag in responding. I don’t want to sell anything lower than I need to and I don’t want things to be high enough where a buyer may get scared. I haven’t closed a lot of mentionable sales this year since I’m more of a buy and hold type of person. I do the occasional LLLL.com flips… and those have proven to be VERY PROFITABLE. If you can get your hands on LLLL.com, IT’S WORTH IT.

5. Network

I’d like to network with more people. I have my MSN messenger and I’ve got plenty on my personal contact list, but not enough other domainers. I’ve been talking to new people and a lot of the people I talk to on MSN that are involved with domaining are extremely nice and helpful. If you meet people then you get perspectives from all sides. You can get a pot of ideas and also experience from one another. I make my e-mail publicly known in case anyone needs anything, so if anyone has any questions just let me know.

6. Contests

I have a great idea at a contest, but I’m not sure it’s exactly fair. Forgetting about that idea, after I work on tweaking the site a little bit and getting it to work the way I want it to, I’m going to hold a lot more “bookmark worthy” contests on the site. It’ll be fun and interesting!

7. Promotion

For my SITES. I’ve got one big development project coming up (at least it is for me) and I plan on promoting it, but there are some problems. Can’t get into details about the problems, but it involves Google’s search engine. That’s only for some sites, though. Other sites I’m going to be developing will start to get a little bit of promotion depending on the idea. I haven’t promoted ANY of my sites and rely on mainly SE traffic. So, that might change… just to see if it’s beneficial to me to start actively making some domain projects publicly known.

8. Access More Often

I HATE this one, but I really feel that I need more access. With the amount of growth I’ve had in the last 3 months, I feel I may need to be connected online more often. I had a PDA a while ago but it was annoying me having it in my pocket. I got rid of it, and now sort of regret it. Will be going cell phone shopping within the next 2 months to get something I can use to check up on sites. One of my sites got hacked twice in the last 4 months. Annoying. Lost a lot of revenue since it was hacked the first time while I was on vacation. I didn’t check up everyday, so it went 1 week not working properly. Took me about one week and a ton of e-mails to get the situation resolved since I wasn’t at my desktop computer. Second time wasn’t that bad. Had about 20 hour downtime. When I saw revenue decreased by 98%, I knew there was a problem. It’s always good to monitor stats!

Alright, there are some more I’m sure but I have writers block. I’m more focused on the problem I had while purchasing a laptop as a gift for my dad yesterday. Going to get the situation resolved. Ordered a laptop and it never arrived, so I bought one yesterday, yet was incorrectly charged. Along with THAT situation, I was going to go to Mexico tonight to party for the New Year, but there were a change of plans. Damnit. Was really looking forward to a couple hours in Mexico! This post was tossed in the “Online Revenue” category since I feel it’d be more useful there than the “Personal” category. I also apologize if there are spelling errors/grammar errors in the post. Will look over it later. I SUPER apologize for the lack of quality lately. I had to revise the whole Google Co-op post since some people wanted more information, but didn’t get it in the post. If there’s ANYTHING you want more information on, FEEL FREE TO DROP ME A MESSAGE IN THE SHOUTBOX, and/or e-mail Fka200 – at – hotmail – dot – com.

HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE. MAKE SURE TO BE SAFE TONIGHT!! DON’T GET TO WASTED!
