AdSense For Search VS Google Co-Op

I promised a couple people I would talk about AdSense for search, so here it goes:

A lot of people have asked on the forums about whether they could just create a website and place an AdSense for Search code on there and hope to make millions. Can you? NO. Why not? It’s against AdSense TOS. First off, you need content on the website. Without content, you are risking your account since it makes your site look like its MFA -> Made For AdSense. OK… so now you have some content… is it allowed? OK. Possibly yes, but placing an AdSense for Search code on a site with BS content doesn’t look all that nice. Wouldn’t you like to customize the search bar and remove that “Google” logo? Of course you would, but you cant:

AdSense code may not be altered, nor may standard ad behavior be manipulated in any way that is not explicitly permitted by Google.

So what should be done? Use Google Co-op. But you want to make money? Just give it your AdSense Pub-ID and you’re done. It works the same as AdSense for Search without the restrictions. Here’s a quick look at the Make Money tab:

Google Co Op Make Money

With Google Co-op, you have the control to mess with the code and have more flexibility to do what you want–and making the revenue you feel you deserve by adding your pub-id. It can all be managed by your current gmail account, and it’s really not that hard to set up. Just head over to to the Google Co-op site, and click create your own engine. Now, for more customizing power, make sure you click on “Code.” This way you get the code to mess with the look and feel. OK. Promise fulfilled. If anyone has any questions, leave a comment. It’s pretty much all in front of your face on the actual Google Co-op site. Goodluck!

P.S: This was actually suggested to me by the AdSense team when I was asking them about this. I used Google Co-op before, but didn’t know you could add your AdSense pub-id to make it act like AdSense for Search. So, technically this is AdSense for Search on steroids for me since I can customize it as I please and be within Google’s guidelines.

Under Adsense T&C;s they state “A site or third party cannot display our ads, search box, search results, or referral buttons as a result of the actions of any software application such as a toolbar.”

Can you use toolbars with Google Coop.

    Hey Paul,

Using Google Co-op might be OK. For Adsense, it is a definite NO… but Co-op… even though they are “basically” the same thing (Coop and AdSense for Search), they are WAY more lenient on.

I would definitely e-mail AdSense and ask… the reason I say AdSense is because you’re AdSense account is “linked” to your Co-op, and they might be able to assist you further. Personally, I think it is OK.
