As sick as I am, I just had to post a little something about the music.mobi fiasco. For those that don’t know, basically music.mobi was being bidded on, and supposedly ended @ $66,000. Sedo sent an e-mail with an invoice and such, but they said there was a server slowdown and needed to extend the auction. Instead of extending it for 30 minutes lets just say, the auction went on for another 2 1/2 hours.

Then, there was bidding till $611,000 and the auction ended @ $616,000. The guy who originally won @ 66K was the 611K bidder, but it went that high because of these new mysterious bidders who were involved in the auction after the extended time. Weird, huh? The guy personally posted his story on Namepros (MAKE SURE TO READ THE STORY/ARGUMENTS AT NAMEPROS!!!!):

http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/403779-i-bid-611-000-music-mobi.html

Looks like Sedo has some explaining. I’d be pissed as hell. Gives Sedo a bad reputation–along with a lot of other crap they have been doing in the past.

Bidding $611K on a domain, I’m sure the guy has enough funds to go through with the lawsuit -> Thread title: “I bid $611,000 for music.mobi - Lawsuit Pending.”

WARNING: Make sure you have popcorn in the microwave before getting started. It gets really interesting. Also, for more information on the person who “won” the music.mobi auction, check him out here:

I’m not saying anything negative, but this story is just super weird. Like I said, popcorn bag in the microwave on high for 3minutes :). K. Getting back to the green tea.

Pretty interesting story. Sucks for all unless you’re the owner of the domain, of course…

Sedo should honor the first sale of 66,000 I hope he sues and wins … smells very fishy to me.

$66,000 and $616,000 is a HUGE difference. Sedo isn’t the greatest company out there, but I bet they don’t care about the customer when it comes to a HUGE increase in pay from commission. I doubt that the original bidder will get anywhere with his lawsuit… I really don’t think he’ll be getting the domain he wanted for development reasons.

    It’s EXTREMELY fishy to me.

I am traveling, when I come back toonight I will check.
I am also almost sure having received an email saying I also won a mobi.
When it look likes the auction continued again (without me) and I lost the domain because I fail to bid.
I will not miss to complaint strongly if that’s the case.
And if this happened, SEDO should simply put again these names at auction and cancel previous auction, this will be the thing to do.

Very true Francois. This story deserves publicity. I personally had around 400 domains parked @ Sedo, till I decided to pull them out. I only keep 20 or so there just to keep the account active. They always play games–I sent them an e-mail almost a year ago and they have yet to reply. Disgusting company. I also applied for SedoPro and they claim I didn’t make enough to get enrolled. I thought they were joking… the minimum is $200/month to get in… I was making far more than that and they rejected me. OH WELL!

The first Bidder even received an Invoice from SEDO.

They cant do things like that. Ok, I agree, there can be a glitch at an auction, but than you can only add the time of the computer fallout, and not 2 hours more.

Yep. I’m suspecting mTLD wasn’t satisfied with the original $66K win and wanted more. They had a good excuse and it was within TOS–sneaky, yet legal. Instead of extending for 5 minutes, they went 2.5 hours more!!
