WidgetBucks Update : International Publishers Welcomed?

…Going International?
OK. We all know that Widgetbucks doesn’t like international traffic–and banned a bunch of publishers a month or so ago for having tons of international traffic. Wait–did they ban because of international traffic or because ads were placed on websites that weren’t in English? Moving on, it seems that Widgetbucks is now extending its arms out for more international publishers. They are currently working with new ad agencies to make sure they can get their hands on more publishers to place Widgetbucks ads on their site! OK… this sounds extremely good. The system they currently has doesn’t allow any money to be made from international traffic (people outside of the United States of America and Canada). They have a system that realizes if someone is from another country and doesn’t allow money to be made with CPC. In the future, they hope to get the information when a user visits a website and instead feed them a different advertisement. I think this is an AMAZING idea. There are currently other ad agencies who are trying to startup companies that do the same thing with ads, so hopefully this trend will catch on so international publishers can find other ways to monetize their websites. I feel as if this is whats going to be needed in the future. Google’s AdSense system works great, but a lot of international advertisements don’t pay publishers enough. With something like this, ads can be fed to US/Canada (or ‘good quality traffic’–I hate saying that) that will pay well with CPC, and international users will get different ads which will in fact assist with a higher CTR.
Here’s a little clip from the article on the Widgetbucks blog:
At the time a user visits a page containing the widget, we will sense the geographic location of the visitor. If they are in the U.S. and/or Canada, the user will see the normal WidgetBucks widget. If the user is outside those two countries, then our system will determine a country- specific CPM ad to display. We are currently working with advertisers covering 100
countries and offering thousands of creatives to ensure that site visitors will be monetized for your benefit. All ads are restricted against adult or other suggestive themes.
So, it looks like internationalization is the way of the future. I assume publishers outside of the United States/Canada will have the chance to get back into Widgetbucks in the future. I recently made a post about Widgetbucks being either a scam or a legit company, but if you read my post I give specific reasons why I feel they are a REAL LEGIT company who are just trying to do what’s in the best interest for their advertisers (Read my Bodis.com blog post as well!). All in all, I think this is great news for everyone. I feel like the advertising competition in 2008-2009 will get really heated up. If anyones going to be competing with Google’s Adsense, there will need to be a more localized version of ads where if international publishers want to focus on certain traffic they can get paid more for showing those ads on their sites.
