AdSense Video Ads – Finally Available for Canada, UK, and Ireland Publishers

Sometime in October, Google AdSense released “Video Units.” Here’s a quick picture of the control panel:

I initially created a thread on Digital Point’s forum regarding the video units when I first saw the feature enabled in my account (Link to DP thread on AdSense Video Units I created) to share the experience with others who didn’t have the opportunity to use it. It was first enabled for ONLY United States AdSense publishers. My test with the video units lasted one week. I placed it on an entertainment site that got decent traffic, but most importantly a CTR of 7-9% using Google’s AdSense for Content ads. I removed the content ads and tossed up the video units. In a week, I think I made around $1 off the video unit ads and CTR was less than 1%. I figured people were trying to watch the videos and were not noticing the ads placed above it. I removed the video units, and went back to my normal content ads which still performed normally after the swap.

It’s great that now users in other countries can use this. The AdSense team claims that there was “success in the U.S.” (Regarding the video units), so they will be “rolling out video units over the next several days to English-language publishers in the UK, Ireland, and Canada.” (Link to AdSense Blog: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2007/11/video-units-coming-to-uk-ireland-and.html). Here’s another quote from the AdSense Blog:

With this new launch, publishers in the UK, Ireland and Canada will be able to show videos from our YouTube content partners and choose those videos by category, individual YouTube partner, or have video automatically targeted to their site. Based on publisher feedback, we’ve also just added a feature which lets you choose individual videos to be displayed in your video units.

Now I already talked about my experience with the video units. I believe that every publisher should at least test these for 2-3 days to see if they in fact really do make some extra revenue. The best thing about this is that you have the opportunity to provide users with automatically updated videos. When it was first released, there was just a couple videos being rotated, but lately I’ve seen new ones on other sites that take advantage of the video units, so I assume they added more to the database. If you’re still hesitant on trying, check out the thread link above and see the reactions others had when using the video units. It doesn’t hurt to try. Hopefully they start rolling this out to publishers in other countries!

that means it is not very profitable to use it.

    is that right.

but what do you think? Is it OK to put the code in this forum
